Torino President Urbano Cairo has ruled out the possibility of bringing back Giampiero Ventura as a technical director.
However, Cairo told Gazzetta dello Sport: “I don’t know where this news has come from, but it’s unsubstantiated.
“Everyone knows how much I value and appreciate Ventura. He was an important element for Toro.
“He’s linked to plenty of good results, the team’s growth and the improvement of players who, in some cases, guaranteed economic returns and significant capital gains.
“However, he was protagonist of a past era and I’ve never thought about bringing him back, even in a directorial capacity.
“I know that Ventura wants to work on the field and coach a team every day. That’s his natural habitat and I’m sure he’ll soon find the opportunity to show his quality in a dugout again.
“He loves Torino and we love him, but I can rule out his return.”
Sporting director Gianluca Petrachi has been heavily linked with Roma in recent weeks, but the patron made it clear the 50-year-old was staying put.
“We already have a sporting director: it’s Petrachi,” he added.
“He has a contract until 2020 and therefore we’re already covered. This isn’t the time to get lost in other strategies for the future.
“The season is ongoing and there are objectives at stake. Our full focus is only on those.”
