Torino take their chances in tough 3-0 win over Salernitana

Ivan Juric’s Torino made their chances count in a hard-fought win over Salernitana, returning north with all three points.

Paulo Sousa’s side have not started the new season well, picking up just two points from their first three games, and were hungry to secure a key win in their Monday evening clash with Torino, whose last game before the break was a win over Genoa.

Torino started the match at the Stadio Arechi on the front foot and quickly found a 1-0 lead through Alessandro Buongiorno, who took advantage of a scramble in the box to poke the ball past a diving Guillermo Ochoa in the 15th minute.

Salernitana started to grow into the match after this but their attempts to generate some momentum were scuppered in the 41st minute, when Nemanja Radonjic pounced onto a loose ball outside the penalty area and smartly placed a shot into the back of the net, making it 2-0.

Torino maintained this hunger in the early stages of the second half and soon found their third, again thanks to Radonjic, who cleverly latched onto a low cross before striking it past Ochoa, giving Juric’s side a three-goal cushion.

The away side sat deep after this to defend their lead, allowing Salernitana the majority of the ball in the final 30 minutes. Despite the prodding efforts of the home team, no breakthrough could be found, allowing Torino to take home all three points and a clean sheet.
