Torino came out on top 2-0 in a fiery clash with Lecce under the warm sun of Puglia, putting them on the fringes of the European spots.
The Granata bounced back from their tough 4-2 Derby della Mole loss to Juventus at the end of last month with a strong 1-0 win over Bologna, and they maintained this momentum in the South East of Italy this afternoon, showing some positive signs to coach Ivan Juric.
Lecce have looked ever-resilient this season and capable of producing upsets, something Lazio and Atalanta found out, but were unable to display the same quality as the visitors, leaving them with nothing after a tense 90-minute affair.
Wilfried Singo put Torino ahead after just 20 minutes following a smart and well-worked free kick, latching onto a floated ball from Aleksey Miranchuk to poke the ball past Wladimiro Falcone, making it 1-0.
Juric’s side didn’t let up and it only took a few minutes for the travelling side to double their advantage, this time thanks to Antonio Sanabria, who could make no mistake from a few yards out after a wonderful run from Nemanja Radonjic.
Just after the 30 minute mark, an edgy scrap took place on the touchline between the players and staff of the two clubs, leading referee Juan Luca Sacchi to show red cards to coaching staff from both clubs and a number of bookings.
The second half saw Lecce settle into the match a little and push for an equaliser, but their efforts were ultimately in vain as Torino held firm, putting on a mature display to close out their win.
