Torino president Urbano Cairo did not think that Juventus were that much better than the Granata in their 1-0 derby clash.

The Bianconeri edged out an important victory against their intercity rivals, giving them a much needed three points after their Champions League loss to Maccabi Haifa. It was a wasteful match for Torino, who’ll be frustrated they failed to take advantage of their rivals’ poor form.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Cairo gave his thoughts on the Derby della Mole and what went wrong for Torino.

”It was a 0-0 derby. I don’t think Juve created so much more than us. We had important chances with Vlasic, Lazaro and Miranchuk.

“On Lazaro Szczesny was good. As on Vlahovic, Milinkovic-Savic was good in a couple of situations, but the goalkeeper is part of the team and I repeat this was a draw game.

“Let’s also consider the absence of Sanabria who is a functional player for our attacking game, with Inter for example we played a draw. Then Pellegri was not at his best so Juric was forced to play with three trequartisti.

“However, we had chances. Sometimes it went wrong in the small details, for example with Inter and Sassuolo we were punished by final episodes and we did not deserve to lose.”

He also discussed the frustrations expressed by coach Ivan Juric to the media after the defeat.

“Juric’s words fit, it’s normal that he was disappointed to lose a derby that he had a great desire to win. He was bitter and disappointed, as is normal. And so was I. What he said was the result of anger because he is someone who is always combative. Already ready to go again.

“His words on the market and the future? There is little point in talking about the market now. For the rest I think they were words dictated by the great disappointment for the defeat.”

Juventus will now be hoping that their derby win over Torino is the first step towards escaping their sluggish start to the season. Massimiliano Allegri called the squad into a training retreat after the defeat to Maccabi Haifa and it seemed to pay off, although it’s clear that many steps forward are still needed.
