Torino unveiled their kits for the 2021-22 campaign, including an homage to River Plate and their ‘eternal friendship.’

The first jersey is as always in the Granata colours, designed this time by Joma with an imprint of the Toro (bull) symbol on the chest.

The more intriguing one is the away kit, which honours their ‘eternal friendship’ with Argentine club River Plate.

It is white with a diagonal stripe across the chest, except rather than the River Plate red, it is the Torino Granata shade.

The clubs have been twinned ever since the Superga tragedy in May 1949, when the Grande Torino squad perished in a plane crash.

Just three weeks later, River Plate flew in to play a friendly match against a team of Serie A stars representing Torino.

The away jersey marks the date of that game, May 26, 1949, along with the phrase ‘Eterna Amistad.’

It’s a two-way gesture, because River Plate’s next away kit will also have Granata colours in honour of Toro and the phrase ‘Eterna Amistad.’
