The Italy international has dropped down the pecking order at St Mary’s this season, yet still came off the bench to score the goal against Swansea City that will likely keep them in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, according to Tuttosport, Torino are in negotiations to bring Gabbiadini back to the Peninsula.

The 26-year-old left Napoli for Southampton in January 2017 at a cost of €17m and has scored 11 goals in 45 competitive games for the club.

Torino have specialised in revitalising careers of Italian talents who had fallen by the wayside, helping to transform the likes of Ciro Immobile and Alessio Cerci.

They also tend to provide an ideal framework for strikers, such as Andrea Belotti.

Gabbiadini would be reunited with former Napoli midfielder Mirko Valdifiori, who posted a story on Instagram of a hand signing a contract with a heart, dedicated to his friend.
