Torino sporting director Gianluca Petrachi insists “we’re not obliged to sell” any stars.

The likes of Bruno Peres and Nikola Maksimovic have been linked with a move away from the Granata this summer, but the director is keen to keep the squad together.

“Whenever we’ve sold players we’ve always tried to strengthen the team, while making a profit which is the lifeblood of this club,” Petrachi explained on Radio Sportiva.

“Bruno Peres isn’t just liked by Roma, I know of many, some foreign clubs too. There’s nothing concrete yet though, he has a high value but we just renewed his contract this year.

“We’re not obliged to sell, because Toro is one of the few clubs which operates at a profit. The same goes for Maksimovic.

“When a player is happy to stay and fight for the Granata cause we’re happier than anyone. If someone decides they want to move on then we try to please them.

“If a player wants to stay with the Granata, we’re very happy to keep him. The objective it to get as close to a European position as possible.”

Toro face Roma on Wednesday, but Petrachi wouldn’t be drawn on the ongoing Francesco Totti controversy.

“Dirty laundry should be washed at home, I don’t want to get involved in this controversy. Definitely when there’s unity of purpose you also have greater peace of mind to get results.

“We’ll still face a very strong team on Wednesday, and I’d prefer to leave things as they are rather than get involved in a diatribe.”
