Urbano Cairo says Alessio Cerci wanted to leave Torino, whilst Milan were ‘kept informed’ of negotiations, but never presented a solid offer.

The 27-year-old was linked throughout the summer transfer window to the Rossoneri, but ultimately completed a deadline day move to Atletico Madrid.

“The negotiations for Cerci were closed only on Sunday morning,” Cairo has considered today.

“It was not automatic that we were going to sell him, but he asked me, whilst thanking me, to let him go.

“It was his desire, even if we did not want to say it in a clear manner with the market open. I tried to keep him by saying we would talk about this again, I was hoping to be able to convince him.

“from the sale of Cerci, Torino has made €15m, of which five per cent will be deducted. A total of €14.25m plus a bonus that isn’t certain, of about €1m.

“We accepted the offer because there was big pressure from the player, and we agreed to those figures.

“Again, there were texts from the player, always balanced and polite, of course, but very firm.

“Milan never made a concrete offer, but Galliani was always kept informed about the situation.”

Cairo then discussed Amauri with reporters – the 34-year-old was signed yesterday from Parma.

“Amauri has the technical and physical characteristics highly suited to Ventura’s style of play.

“It was an opportunity that we had, fully supported by the Coach and the ds Petrachi. He knows how to play and score goals.

“It is true that Amauri is 34, but in a squad of 10 to 11 young players of great prospect, they need experience and maturity.”
