Multiple reports claim Napoli and Torino have reached an agreement for the transfer of Alessandro Buongiorno, but the Granata President Urbano Cairo insists he wants to meet the Italian centre-back before making any decision.

Buongiorno has emerged as Antonio Conte’s priority signing at Napoli, and all the main Italian media reported on Wednesday that the two parties had shaken hands over the defender’s price tag.

However, Torino president Cairo insists that the deal is not yet completed.

Torino President Cairo keeps Napoli waiting for Buongiorno

“Buongiorno is evidently a player who attracts great interest and is being followed by many teams,” the Granata president told reporters on Thursday.

“I haven’t heard from him since he went to Germany [for EURO 2024] if not for motivational messages. Obviously, I want to talk to him before making any decision. I want to know what he thinks. This is what happened last year when, in the end, we decided to keep him.

“I am glad there is interest, but before making any decision, I want to sit down and listen to what he has to say.”

Buongiorno snubbed a move to Atalanta a year ago but seems keen to join Conte at Napoli this summer.
