Top Serie A club earned less from TV rights than bottom Premier League side

The financial disparity between Serie A and Premier League clubs was made painfully evident by a survey showing the bottom English club earned more in TV rights than the top Italian side.

After Milan were beaten in the transfer market by Newcastle United, who offered practically double their proposal for LOSC defender Sven Botman, people wondered how this was possible.

La Gazzetta dello Sport outline the precise way television rights were divided up between Serie A clubs during the 2021-22 campaign and suddenly it becomes clear.

The top-earning Italian club picked up €84.2m in revenue from television rights this season, followed by Juventus on €77.9m and Milan €77.8m.

Napoli came in fourth on €68.5m and Roma completed the top five by earning €64.1m.

In comparison, the club that finished bottom of the Premier League in the same season pocketed €105m from television rights alone.

The split in Serie A is calculated using both sporting results and the number of tickets and television packages sold.

You gotta love how Susy completely ignored “Inter” in the sentence! Not a single mention in the whole article. From now on lets call Inter “Top-earning Italian club”,

Lades and Gentleman, this is Susy for you, a journalist!

  2. And then people cry about Investcorp. They have no idea how messed up football economics are. The bottom EPL club earned more than the Serie A champion!

  3. This is because Italy have terrible stadiums which lead to low attendances and make for a terrible atmosphere on TV, therefore less TV money.

  4. Wow that’s actually very surprising to me! I would have thought those figures were double – everyone realizes that money is split equally in England – so the top team made the same as the lowest team roughly 92 million euros – not too bad serie a

  5. Anyone who else unbothered by something like this. I’m content with my wholesome local serie A, far away from hype from any other media. A sense of togetherness for me
