Italian journalist Gigi Garanzini reflected on Juventus’ disappointing season and what went wrong in their 1-0 loss to Milan, suggesting there were ‘too many mishaps’.

The Bianconeri’s slim hope of a Champions League finish was snuffed out after Olivier Giroud’s header proved enough to guide the Rossoneri to victory at the Allianz Stadium, putting them out of reach in fourth with one game left to play.

With Juventus’ various off-pitch issues and their disappointing results on it – namely their disastrous Champions League campaign and Europa League semi-final exit – have cast a dark cloud over the club entering the summer break.

Sweeping changes are now expected in the squad, a new sporting director will be appointed, and coach Massimiliano Allegri could depart, allowing the club to start a new era.

Writing in La Stampa via TMW, journalist Gigi Garanzini gave his thoughts on Juventus’ 2022-23 campaign and where things went wrong in their 1-0 loss to Milan.

“Too many mishaps in the season, too much stress accumulated in that grotesque back-and-forth up and down the table. But also the feeling, palpable, that too many supposed leaders really weren’t such.”

He also gave his thoughts on the loss to Milan.

“Nice even if front-footed by Calabria’s cross, splendid Giroud’s hanging whip into the far corner. But if you defend with three centre-backs, and the Frenchman is the only Rossoneri player in the penalty area, you cannot allow him to break free.

“Juve no longer found the energy, mental above all, to attempt a comeback. In the meantime, Milan had controlled at will, even coming close to doubling the score with a couple of chances.”
