Verona's Luca Toni says stopping 'great teams like Roma' is not impossible, even when they have champions like Juan Iturbe.
The ex-Giallorosso striker will likely lead his team's offence for their upcoming game against the capital club this Saturday.
In talking with Roma Radio ahead of the return to the Olimpico, the veteran remembers his time in Rome as: “six beautiful, intense months, it’s a shame about how they ended.”
Having played both with Francesco Totti and with Iturbe, Toni admitted that: “Francesco has more experience than I do, he won't let go, just like me.
“In the end everyone lives football in their own way, you try being a positive example for your teammates, looking beyond money because it's nice to feel the adrenaline of scoring a goal. It's the kind of thing we'll miss when we're retired.
“Iturbe is really strong, but he can become a champion. I spoke to him a lot last year and I told him it's up to him whether he becomes a phenomenon or he ends up working in a pizzeria. With Roma he can win in an important team.”
Toni did not seem intimidated about the idea of playing against a great club.
“We're going to go for it on Saturday, just like we're going to go for it against Juventus. The points you win against great teams are unexpected and therefore are worth even more.
“Last year we weren't able to stop Roma,” he admitted. “But we did stop Juventus.”
