Former Italy striker Luca Toni admits Felipe’s foul on Phil Foden was ‘awful’ but believes the England international somehow caused the massive brawl at the end of Atletico vs. Man City last night.

Manchester City qualified for the Champions League semi-finals after a tense match at the Wanda Metropolitano. It ended in a 0-0 draw and with a huge brawl between players. It all began with a foul of Atletico Madrid defender Felipe on Foden, which cost a red card to the Brazilian defender.

“The foul was awful, Felipe was wrong and I don’t even know why he complained. He knows there is VAR and he deliberately kicked his opponent,” Toni told Amazon Prime video.

“However, Foden was asking for trouble. He was off the pitch but then rolled back on [to waste time]. These are bad images, it would be better not to vent anger like that, but I know it’s not easy.

“They were all wrong, this aggressivity brings to making mistakes sometimes.”

Toni, a 2006 Italy World Cup winner, scored 157 goals in 344 serie A appearances. He never won the Champions League, but became German champions with Bayern Munich twice.

He was part of Antonio Conte’s Juventus in 2011-12 but left the team in January not being part of the coach’s plans. He scored the first-ever goal at the Allianz Stadium in a friendly match against Notts County in September 2011.

  1. This is karma. Ath Madrid played the same tactics against Man U in prev game. They got a taste of their own medicine!

  2. Earlier in the tie an Ath Madrid player injured off the pitch did exactly the same as Foden and rolled back onto the pitch. I don’t remember the other Madrid players being annoyed then!!!

  3. Athletico … Dirtiest team in world football, managed by a very unsportsmanlike and unsavoury manager!

  4. @Ali

To all the above, they arent ATHLETICO MADRID

    They are Atletico Madrid

    No “h” after the t

  5. Shut up Toni, we don’t care what you think, we won, end of, mind your own business. Your country are the worst for cheating. Hypocrite.

  6. The hypocrisy of the English media knows no boundaries, as usual.
People forget the Simeone-Beckham incident at the 1998 world cup, Simeone simulated and exaggerated his reaction and got Beckham sent off.
Even though the challenge was hardly that serious.
    Simeone was called a cheat..

It was the correct decision then, to send off Beckham, and it was the correct decision yesterday to send off Felipe.
The rules are clear: the slightest attempt to hurt a player will be punished.
See what happened with Barella-Militao in the Real-Inter match in Madrid this season.

You only have yourself to blame when the opposition takes the slightest advantage of to exaggerate and simulate, in order to get you sent off.. that is what happens in football.

  7. Story for the gods… Felip and savic deserve red card each, that’s what their coach is teaching them, UEFA should please punish at.madrid for their usua_violent outburst against mancity

  8. Shut up Cityblue and stick to your English forums and actually your the hypocrite as your country are the worse cheats, and not liked the world over as witnessed after Italy’s win over you at the Euros, the whole world was happy.

  9. Toni has a World Cup title win and is not approaching 100 years old, unlike those in England. He can say what he wants.

  10. NOT ONLY ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHEAT THE ENGLISH ARE WORLD’S BIGGEST LYING PIECE OF JOURNALISM.
THE INCIDENT WAS JUST AS NORMAL OF AN INTENSE FOOTBALLING MATCH UP AND FILIPE DESERVED HIS RED CARD BUT JUST WANTING TO SELL STORY THEY WENT ON FOR ‘DIVING SIMULATION AND ROLLING AROUND THE PITCH’ OF OVER EXAGGERATING IT.

THEY HAVE AND WILL HAVE NOTHING
