Newcastle United fans explained why they worked so hard to fill the stands of St. James’ Park with a tribute to Italy international Sandro Tonali after 10 months out on betting charges.

The midfielder was very grateful for the reception he received on his return to the field, having been in training every day with his teammates to keep in shape during the ban for breaching betting regulations.

He also sought treatment for a gambling addiction and is set to make his comeback for Italy this evening in the Nations League against France.

It was a wonderful gesture from the Magpies supporters, showing “support for someone who had a tough time.”

Newcastle United fans welcome Tonali
