Tonali to meet with FIGC Prosecutor – report

Sandro Tonali is expected in Rome on Monday to meet with the FIGC Prosecutors, where it is expected they will discuss the terms of a potential plea bargain as part of an impending ban for the Newcastle player’s involvement in prohibited gambling.

Monday’s appointment has been described by Calciomercato.com as a pre-referral agreement, one similar to the meeting held by Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli before his seven-month ban was delivered.

It is expected that Tonali will face a slightly heftier ban than Fagioli, as he was found to have bet on his own team’s matches while representing Milan, although he insists he never bet on games that he was involved in.

Tonali was questioned last week by the Federal prosecutors in Turin, but the FIGC will be responsible for determining the length of his sporting ban.

Tonali did feature for Newcastle off the bench during their 4-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday, but it is likely that this was his final appearance in a Newcastle shirt this season.

A result from the FIGC is expected to be given relatively quickly, with Calciomercato reporting that if a result does not arrive later today, it will almost certainly come at some stage this week.
