Sandro Tonali admits it was ‘simply not a Milan performance’ in the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, but they can learn from it.

The Rossoneri had more possession at Stamford Bridge, but only one real scoring opportunity created by a Rafael Leao run, with Charles De Ketelaere’s shot saved and Rade Krunic firing the rebound over.

Meanwhile, the hosts ran riot in acres of space to score with Wesley Fofana, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reece James.

“It is difficult to analyse individual incidents, it was overall simply not a Milan performance,” Tonali told Amazon Prime Italia.

“We need to use this experience and learn from it, as an example for so many other matches. Chelsea started with an extra gear compared to us and it was visible from the start.”

All is not lost, as the Champions League group remains incredibly close, with RB Salzburg on five points, Milan and Chelsea four, then Dinamo Zagreb three.

Next week will be a big game, as the Rossoneri host Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and should have Theo Hernandez back, even though others like Mike Maignan, Davide Calabria, Alexis Saelemaekers and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are out until 2023.

Before that, Milan have a Serie A showdown with Juventus this weekend.

  1. Six games out of eleven this season, Milan have conceded first. You keep giving the opposition a leg up, even the most winnable match becomes difficult. The defending has generally been well below the expected level.
