Sandro Tonali admits Milan ‘threw away the first half’ of their 1-1 draw with Udinese and need to find tactical alternatives in future.

Beto scored after an Ismael Bennacer error and lucky ricochet, but the Rossoneri snatched an equaliser in stoppages with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s acrobatic effort.

Serie A | Udinese 1-1 Milan: Ibrahimovic replies to Beto

“It hurts and we are disappointed to have thrown away the first half, as we lost the ball so many times in midfield and made it easy for them to go on the counter,” second-half substitute Tonali told Sky Sport Italia.

“We reacted in the second half, but we are Milan and we had to react quicker. At this stage of the season, we can’t use injuries as an alibi. Every team has these issues, ours maybe a bit more, but we have a quality squad and cannot use them as an excuse.”

Opponents are also facing Milan in a slightly different way, having perhaps learned from Stefano Pioli’s approach last season.

“Yes, but we must still have a solution for every gameplan. In the final 15 minutes, we pumped a lot of balls into the box against a side that sat very deep. We can’t do that for 70 minutes, but in the closing stages we went for that and it led to the goal.

“Other teams might’ve figured us out tactically, but we have to find the alternatives and keep going forward.”
