Sandro Tonali believes Milan will ‘learn from the experience’ of their first Champions League campaign in seven years, as they now focus on the Scudetto.

It was the debut in the competition for many of their players, including midfielder Tonali, and that showed with some cheap errors throughout the group.

Champions League | Milan 1-2 Liverpool: Tomori not enough

This evening they had taken the lead against Liverpool through Fikayo Tomori, but defensive mistakes gifted the goals to Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi for a 2-1 final result.

“We knew it was a difficult game, as even without some of their first-choice players, Liverpool have so much strength in depth,” Tonali told Sky Sport Italia.

“We learned from the experience against these top teams and that is what we will take with us going forward. We could’ve done more, that is always true, but we didn’t hold back today and cannot turn back time.

“All we can do now is continue along our path and focus on the next objective.”

Milan finish bottom of the group and therefore go out of Europe altogether, just as Inter did last season.

  1. This Milan side always find ways to come up short when it matters and will still find a way NOT to win the Scudetto even with an easier schedule of less games.

  2. There is not original forza juve, there is fake… In my country basketball is number one and football level is poor, no local team I support at all, only italian teams are for me, very big shame how milan played against these unknown kids yesterday, terrible, I thought italian football is growing up again but now see they will be lost in future if they will not take arabs billions they can become 10th league in europe :-/

  3. Yet another in the long line of poor performances by Milan and Serie A sides in Europe. Hard to believe they needed to win this game. When the top team in Italy can’t handle the Liverpool reserves who have nothing to play for, things are in a bad state.

I think Italian sides were slowly getting better before Covid, but the virus seems to have knocked every league back bar the oil/TV money one.

  4. This Milan don’t deserve to top seriA,those players should be considering another profession.they don’t have future as a footballer.

  5. Let´s get this right shall we. 1. We got robbed from points on a least one game (Pent and Vars was and not me being biased this is the truth, against us 2. We played one horrendous game against Porto in the toughest group there was and ALMOST gone trough. 3. One the game it mattered we had 4 KEY players out (Kjaer, Calabria, Rebic, Leao) I think we went out with our heads held high. With a new striker which we absolutely need to sign we slowly making progress. Keep in mind our opponents and the group we played. Why on earth is noon mentioning the clear pent Kessie should have had yesterday or at least had VAR intervened? To sum it up, for us its actually better that we went out as we can focus on Serie A. Considering our squad is on a massive injury throne this might even be a blessing in disguise

@Isaac, maybe you should let the grown up talk or at least try write something that adds value to the conversation.

  6. Victor you are joker, its was total shame that yesterday milan at home not get win, its total shame you not reach even europa league… You not get any coefficient points so next term you will be in even harder group again only 3rd seeded at best, most possibly 4th seed, its could been everything very good for milan but after yesterday performance its total shame and you not need to complain nothing about wrong referee decisions against atletico and there cant be any excuses, shame for italian football and serie A to delegate such teams, cant imagine if Atalanta will play like this today, its impossible!

  7. @FORZA Juve

Dude.. its Liverpool, they played a great game.. clearly you didn’t watch the game. We MUCH rather focus on the league then spend even more time on europa league. If we would have gone Inters group we would have gone through BELIEVE that. There was shameful referring in some of the games, it was discussed widely among ref in Europe. It will be interesting to see if your team will play Cl football next season or even be in Europe..

  8. @Viktor

How is it “clear he didn’t watch the game” exactly? Sounds like he did watch it to me.
Quit with your constant defending of this average team. Ok? It’s embarrassing. Milan were garbage in 4 of the 6 games, so don’t go on like they were unlucky. U only “almost went through” because AM and Porto were nearly as bad as u, not because your team did much right.
Milan haven’t been relevant in Europe for 16 seasons now. Got that? Not many teams have dragged down Serie A’s co-oefficient as much as Milan during that spell.
Shameful lack or urgency against Liverpool reserves who had absolutely nothing to play for.

  9. What liverpool you saw the squad names? Its only name of liverpool, I first time heared 7 of their starting players…. You are stupid if you think milan is worthy to compete in champions league if they cant beat such team at home, hope milan will finish 10th in serie A not even understand how they can compete with such teams like torino or sampdoria… I saw the game and hoped for win, and saw total shit play all game defending when they needed win, dont know what game you was looking, milan is way much bigger club than liverpool and such poor performances is totaly not acceptable

  10. Victor, its better to not play in euro0e at all than play like that and score just couple of points and finish last, its shame… Hope milan will not be there next season because again they will be 4th seeded team and will be in group with something like bayern psg and real sociedad…

  11. Totally agree with FERBAN. That is my observation as well – the virus has damaged a lot of clubs, not just in Italy, but the money league has been able to absorb it better than any other. Serie A has been entertaining as usual, but very sloppy this season.

  12. ha ha ha Viktor you and Rosario still think Milan can win the title. Yeah sure and pigs can fly. You guys will end up where you were last season. Next season reinforcement needed, but prime players. Not 17 year olds and 40+. I kept saying you do not have enough depth, quality and character to see off games. This is particularly true when it comes to lesser teams. I have been proven to be correct. When the pressure is on Milan crumbles. You guys should have put more effort into advancing last night against a rested Liverpool first team. Progression means more money. You guys do not think long term gains. Inter have more quality, depth and experience in the league. That is the only difference. And yes I support Juventus and we suck right now so do not think I am living in cuckoo land. We are not winning the CL and going out next round, but you guys better win that league as anybody other than Inter is OK.

  13. All these Juve and Inter fans complaining about Milan‘s poor performance against LIVERPOOL.

Come back when you guys have managed to beat them in a competitive match first.

Milan are top of the league where they will stay. Given no European commitments, they’ll just do what INTER did last season and go all out in the Serie A.

Inter and Juve will play another 2 or 4 matches before being humiliated by the big teams in Europe anyway. Their own title challenges (in Juve’s case a European spot challenge) will fall off.

Let’s see you fans talk smack come end of the season.
