Sandro Tonali will be available for the first leg of the Champions League semis against Inter or Benfica as he didn’t receive a yellow card in the first half against Napoli, as initially thought.
Tonali appeared to have been booked in the first half of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Napoli at the Stadio Maradona. The former Brescia midfielder was one yellow card away from suspension, meaning he would have missed the semis if he had been booked.
UEFA initially said the Italian midfielder had received a yellow card from referee Szymon Marciniak although he hadn’t committed the foul and hadn’t protested against the match official.
The yellow card wasn’t for Tonali, but for his teammate Theo Hernandez who was not in danger of missing the following match.
UEFA confirmed the final decision, with a yellow card for the Frenchman which means Tonali will be available for the semi-finals against Inter or Benfica who meet at San Siro on Wednesday night. The Nerazzurri won the first leg in Portugal 2-0 last week.
