Fikayo Tomori welcomes ex-Chelsea teammate Alvaro Morata and new coach Paulo Fonseca to Milan with ‘new ideas and a good atmosphere,’ confirming he went on vacation with Roma striker Tammy Abraham.

The defender was at the opening of a new flagship club store in Via Dante in Milan and spoke to reporters after the event.

“A lot is changing. Obviously, there is a new coach, we have new ideas and a good atmosphere. We are working hard and are excited right now,” said Tomori.

Spain international Morata is expected to undergo his medical with the Rossoneri, completing a transfer for the €13m release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract.

“I played with him at Chelsea, so I know the quality he has. He is a striker with pace, strength and an eye for goal. This is what we need for this season. It is not confirmed yet, but we are happy.”

Morata is effectively the replacement for Olivier Giroud, another former Chelsea player, who left as a free agent for a new experience in MLS with LAFC.

“He is a different type of player with different characteristics, but we hope he can help. We’re excited for the new season. We worked on pressing, how to attack, defend, build from the back.”

Abraham firm friends with Tomori

Tomori has famously been friends with Abraham since they were together in the Chelsea youth academy, so has he been talking to the Roma striker about a possible transfer to Milan?

“We went on vacation together this summer, but we didn’t talk about football, just general conversation.”

There are reports that the Rossoneri have approached Abraham for a move to San Siro, but Roma are holding out for circa €25m to release the English centre-forward.
