Fikayo Tomori is more certain than ever that leaving Chelsea for Milan was the right decision and reveals he urged Tammy Abraham to join Roma. ‘It’s led to me being here’ in the England squad.

The centre-back received his England recall ahead of World Cup qualifiers and spoke at a press conference this afternoon about his career progress in Italy.

He was constantly being loaned out by Chelsea, but the Rossoneri showed faith in his abilities.

“It was a difficult time. Every footballer wants to play and I got the opportunity to do that at Milan, when it came at such a big club, I was so happy, so excited, and I’m really happy that it’s gone so well so far,” said Tomori.

“We started the new season well, the club has a lot of faith in me, I’m really happy and settled there. It’s led me to be here, so it’s all going really well.”

He noted that he had ‘forgotten’ all about the tension at Chelsea that existed during his final months there, as he is now totally focused on Milan.

“Everyone in football knows AC Milan and how big of a club it is. There’s a pressure to win, a pressure to perform, so many fans in the stadium and around Milan as well. You definitely feel the weight of the club and the history of the club.

“Having that pressure to perform every week brings out the best in me, it has brought out the best in the team. That pressure and need to win is definitely a driving force. Obviously, Milan for the past few years had a bit of a funny time, so to be back in the Champions League and at the top of Serie A, it’s a really good time and I’m enjoying it.

There’s another England and former Chelsea player finding his form again in Italy too, as Tomori reveals Abraham asked for advice before joining Roma.

“Roma is a big club, Milan is a big club, there’s so much history behind the clubs. When he told me about Roma, I was telling him, yes, come and play against me.”

  1. Tomori is great, but to be fair Chelsea fans knew what a talent they’re losing at the time of his sell. Most of them were saying he’ll turn into one of the best defenders in Europe in a few years.

    They were not wrong.
