Milan defender Fikayo Tomori said it’s ‘time for us to beat Liverpool’ and stressed the Rossoneri ‘will give everything’ to qualify for the last 16.

The English defender looks forward to the decisive game in the group stage of the Champions League, as the Reds visit San Siro on Tuesday night.

Milan: Pioli reveals tactical key to beat Liverpool

Tomori, who joined Milan from Chelsea, knows what to expect when the giants from Merseyside arrive in Milan, and encouraged the Diavolo to go on the pitch ‘believing’ they can go through.

“It will be an intense match, there will be a stadium ready to support us, we know it will be an important match,” Tomori told Sky Sport Italia.

“We respect Liverpool, we have seen in recent years how they play. They are an aggressive team that often comes to cross and have great ball possession. They score a lot, so we know it will be difficult, but we have to show personality, show that we want to win.

“I’m sure that tomorrow, by putting all this on the pitch, it will be a good match for us. If we win, we have a chance to qualify. We were a bit unlucky in the first leg, in terms of the result, because we played well. But we lacked the result and now we can qualify, and we have to go on the pitch believing in it.”

Denmark international Simon Kjaer has suffered a cruciate ligament injury and has been ruled out for six months.

Tomori revealed his colleague at the back is a ‘leader on and off the pitch’ and has asked his teammates to ‘unite’ in the veteran’s absence.

“Simon is an important part of our team,” Tomori said. “Both on and off the pitch. He has a strong personality, he’s a leader and he showed how important he is this season.

“It’s hard for us to lose a player like him, but the time has come when we need to unite as a team, play for him, win, go through and have a good season for him.

“I’ll try to give my best to the team as a leader, but I believe that every single player on the team has to give something more now. It’s time for us to beat Liverpool. We will give everything.”

Milan need a win to have a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition, while FC Porto need to draw or lose at home against Atletico Madrid in the other Group B fixture.
