Milan star defender Fikayo Tomori hopes the Rossoneri’s Scudetto is ‘just the beginning’ and explains the differences between Serie A and Premier League.

The former Chelsea defender won his first trophy at the Stadio Meazza on Sunday, when the Rossoneri beat Sassuolo 3-0 at the Mapei Stadium, claiming their first Serie A title in 11 years.

“It’s hard to explain what I feel right now. I feel many emotions inside. We’ve worked hard to win the title and we made it. It’s my first title with Milan and I hope it’s only the beginning,” the England international told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We knew we were a strong team and that we could win. When I arrived a year and a half ago, we were table leaders and our target was to qualify for the Champions League. It was natural to aim for a trophy this season. It’s such a great feeling and it’s even better because I feel so well here. I refer to the club, the city and my teammates.”

What did he feel when he saw the Scudetto trophy at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday?

“I’ve never felt anything similar. I realized what we had just done. I felt the magic. I think we deserved it so much.”

The Rossoneri were eliminated in the Champions League group stage this season, finishing fourth in a group with Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Porto. What do they need to achieve better results in Europe next season?

“I think about the experience, more quality, perhaps more players,” he said.

“We need everything, even being luckier with referees. We could have obtained more this season because we felt we were up to the task. We’ll be even more prepared next season and I am convinced we’ll get better results.”

Tomori joined Milan on an initial loan deal from Chelsea in January 2021. What are the main differences between Serie A and Premier League?

“It’s mostly about the intensity. There is more in England and teams run more. In Italy, there are more tactics and we move as a unit rather than individually. Other than this, there aren’t many differences, just a few small details.”

Tomori has played with Kjaer, Kalulu and Romagnoli this season. What’s the difference between them?

“First of all, I want to say that I give my best every time I play, but all defenders are different. Kalulu is very young, so I have to talk a little more because he needs to be guided. With Kjaer, it’s the opposite. He is a natural leader, so he is the one giving guidance,” said the former Chelsea starlet.

“The same goes for Romagnoli, who is our captain and has been in the team for many years.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract runs out in the summer. Does Tomori expect to play with the Swede for one more season?

“He is a fantastic player who has helped us so much, but a decision on the future is only up to him.”
