Fikayo Tomori believes Milan must cope with Liverpool’s ‘intensity and quality’ but insist the Rossoneri want to win to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Tomorrow, the Serie A leaders host Jurgen Klopp’s side at San Siro at 20.00 UK time.
They can still qualify for the last 16, but only if they win and Porto pick up a draw against Atletico Madrid in Portugal.
“We want to win and I think this is the mentality we must have tomorrow. We want to get a good result, and we’ll give everything to do so,” Tomori said at a press conference.
“Liverpool have a great team, but we know we are strong too. They have intensity and quality, they’ve obtained great results in Champions League and the Premier League, but we’ve also done a great job lately.”
The Rossoneri suffered a 3-2 loss in the reverse fixture at Anfield Road, the first Champions League game for the Rossoneri in more than seven years. How have Milan changed since?
“I think we’ve improved a lot as a team. That was the first Champions League game for many and it was difficult to adapt,” said Tomori.
“Now we’ve played five and we must play a crucial one to qualify for the last 16. We are more focused and determined, but we’ll need the same commitment. We know it will be difficult, but we want to win.”
The Serie A giants must cope without Simon Kjaer, who sustained a knee injury last week and will remain out of action for the rest of the season.
“Simon is an important part of the team and you saw against Salernitana how much he means to us,” the former Chelsea defender said.
“We need to work all together to fill his void, we have the personality to do it. What happened to him is sad, but we want to play a good season also for him.”
Milan are the Serie A table leaders with 38 points in 16 matches. They beat Salernitana 2-0 on Saturday but will face Liverpool without several regular starters, including Rafael Leao and Davide Calabria.
