Fikayo Tomori admits it’s ‘difficult’ to explain Milan‘s slow start in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Inter: ‘We must do more and better.’

The Rossoneri faced a 2-0 loss at San Siro on Tuesday. They had a shocking start seeing Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan score one goal each in the opening 11 minutes.

Tomori struggled to explain Milan’s poor approach in the first half: “We conceded two goals quickly and against a team like Inter it’s difficult to recover,” he told Amazon Prime Italia.

“It’s difficult to explain, we are disappointed because we lost, we should have done more, but it’s only the first game, so we have to do more and better in the return leg.”

So, what do Milan need to turn it around?

“We must believe we can qualify for the Final, it won’t be easy, we know they are strong, but if we play as we know, with intensity and quality, we can cause trouble for them, we are disappointed tonight,” said the English centre-back.

The second leg will be played on Tuesday, May 16 and it will be a home game for the Nerazzurri.

Milan hope they will recover Rafael Lea for the decider at the Stadio Meazza next week. The Portuguese star was ruled out of the first leg on Wednesday due to an adductor injury and looked distraught on the sidelines tonight.

The Rossoneri return to the pitch this coming Saturday in an away Serie A match against Spezia at the Stadio Picco.
