There are even more injury problems piling up for Milan and their trip to Juventus, as Fikayo Tomori could be used as a right-back, with Mike Maignan not guaranteed to start in goal.

It kicks off on Sunday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT) at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin.

Stefano Pioli has huge problems to deal with just days after an energy-sapping 3-2 Champions League defeat away to Liverpool.

There are six players out of action, specifically Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Olivier Giroud, Davide Calabria, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Rade Krunic and Junior Messias.

Juventus and Milan forced into changes

According to Sky Sport Italia, these are only the players not making the trip, but two others are by no means guaranteed a starting spot.

Maignan saved Mohamed Salah’s penalty at Anfield and landed awkwardly on his left hand.

He was spotted in training on Saturday with strapping around his left wrist and it remains to be seen if he’ll pass a fitness test.

If the Frenchman cannot make it, then Ciprian Tatarusanu will take over the gloves.

The other concern is the right-back, where Alessandro Florenzi was the natural replacement for Calabria.

However, the former Roma veteran is not fully fit either and there are concerns about using him in such an energetic role.

Instead, Pioli reportedly tested out centre-back Tomori on the right, which would allow Milan to defend with three while Theo Hernandez has more freedom to bomb forward down the left.

If confirmed, then this would mean no rest for Simon Kjaer, forming a new partnership with Alessio Romagnoli.

3 thought on “Tomori at right-back and Maignan doubt for Milan?”
  1. There is very little ‘depth’ in Serie A. Obviously this is due to financial resources – and until these are improved Serie A clubs will not be able to compete in Europe. 12 years have passed since a Serie A team won a European Trophy. An eternity and with no end in sight.

  2. This is the exact same situation as last year! The season has just barely started and already half the team are out. Something is seriously wrong in Milanello and it’s not even funny anymore.

Fielding a team with no pure strikers was bad enough but playing with Lord Tata in goal would be ridiculous.

And at a time when Juventus is by all means beatable. smh
