Players’ Association President Damiano Tommasi has revealed that Serie A risks not resuming this season but insisted ‘the goal is to finish the championship’.

The daily debate regarding the resumption fills the pages of Italian newspapers and the AIC chief has pointed out that the never-ending story is due to the coverage in the media.

“We live in a society where they need new information about football every day and therefore, we must fill the pages talking about the hope of returning to the pitch,” Tommasi told Radio 2 Social Club. “Now, everyone simply says that it will not resume until a certain date, also because football is not the top priority of the many activities we will have to resume as soon as possible.”

Despite claiming that ‘football is not the top priority’, Tommasi has reassured fans that they are working hard behind the scenes to find a solution to carry out the current campaign, but warned it may all stop prematurely.

“Deciding the outcome over the table is risky for the potential appeals it may lead to,” he added. “The goal is to finish the championship on the pitch, it’s the best way for all categories.

“The real risk, however, is needing to stop it here. We will have to deal with the lower leagues, with clubs that risk not being able to sign up for the next championships and players who risk losing their jobs.”
