The head of the Italian players’ union, the AIC, played 351 games for Roma, winning the Scudetto in 2001 as well as two Coppe Italia.
Tommasi also played 25 times for Italy, but he believes it’s exactly that experience which could handicap him in his election bid.

Tommasi also played 25 times for Italy, but he believes it’s exactly that experience which could handicap him in his election bid.
“Nobody says I’m incapacitated, but playing right up to the national team becomes a handicap,” the former midfielder lamented on Radio Onda Libera.
“It’s seen as a defect. It’s certainly a big responsibility and you choose the CT of the national team.
“[Cosimo] Sibilia was [Carlo] Tavecchio’s vicarious vice-President and [Gabriele] Gravina has been opposition above all. We’re talking about candidacies very different from mine.
“I like to think about a general reorganisation of calcio, and I hope that after January 29 we can talk about football.”
