The whole Serie A season has been put back by a week due to the postponed games, while it’s now not clear when or even if the Coppa Italia semi-finals can be completed.

“The Coronavirus problem is not just an Italian one. Serie A will continue behind closed doors, but among the players there are those who agree we have to keep going and others who are worried.

“We’ll take all the necessary precautions, but the players on the pitch are taking a risk every time. What makes this worse is that if one player is struck by Coronavirus, the whole squad might have to go into quarantine.”

Clubs have been ordered to test their players and staff regularly, while there are various other guidelines to ensure the virus does not spread.

This includes a ban on handshakes before or after the match, players urged not to drink from the same bottle and even media disinfecting the microphone between interviews.
