The President of the Biancocelesti is in the eye of the storm since a disparaging phone-call was released to the public, in which he ridiculed prominent chiefs of Italian football and suggested that low-earning Serie B clubs should be repressed.
Juventus director Beppe Marotta slammed his 'feudal system' yesterday, while Lega Pro director Pino Iodice, who released the phone-call's recording, called him a 'miserable human being' earlier today.
More and more figures are joining the rally. AIC President Tommasi declared today that words are no longer a sufficient response.
“The time to distance oneself with words is gone, to really take a stance you need facts,” he said on occasion of a book launch by Lamperto Gherpelli, as reported by Repubblica.it.
“These past few days some very serious things have been said around this sport, and in terms of the same sport I think the consequences should be equally harsh.
“We know what happened with the elections [of FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio] last summer and what's going on.
“We've known about this process of decadence for a while now. I don't know what will happen with Lotito.”
Tommasi was asked whether he agreed with AIA President Marcello Nicchi's statement four days ago that they should not have voted for Tavecchio.
“We have to stick to the facts, if there are enough of them to show that the indignation [against Lotito] is real then we still have a glimmer of hope.
“Otherwise we'll keep commenting situations that make us look bad.”
Lega Serie B head Abodi also intervened and his tone was equally uncompromising.
“Lotito insulted not just myself but the whole world of Serie B, all 22 clubs,” he said in an interview with La Repubblica. “Let him bear that in mind.
“The FIGC has to intervene. Lotito needs to take a few steps back because the kind of tone he used won't take us anywhere.”
