Takehiro Tomiyasu is having his Arsenal medical tests in Italy this evening, preparing the €20m plus bonuses transfer, as Bologna triple their investment.

The Japan international had never disguised his desire to one day make it in the Premier League and was in negotiations for weeks with Tottenham Hotspur this summer, before they opted for Atalanta’s Cristian Romero instead.

According to Sky Sport Italia, there isn’t time to fly to London, so Tomiyasu is having his medical tests in Bologna this evening.

The 22-year-old is a centre-back, but can also play as a right-back or even as a defensive midfielder.

Bologna paid €7m to sign Tomiyasu from Belgian club VV Sint-Truiden in the summer of 2019, so are essentially tripling their money with this sale to Arsenal for €20m plus performance-related bonuses.

He has one goal and two assists in 23 senior caps for Japan.

Tomiyasu leaves Bologna after 64 competitive appearances for the club, in which he scored three goals and set up a further three.
