Timothy Weah, the son of Milan great George Weah, touched on his passion for the Rossoneri and desire to play for the club one day, calling himself ‘an avid Milanista’.

The 23-year-old Weah is currently a regular for Ligue 1 side Lille, where he’s been since July 2019. A tactically flexible player, the American has featured as both a right winger and a left back this season.

Weah was also part of the United States squad for the recent World Cup in Qatar, where he scored in the 1-1 draw with Wales.

Speaking to MilanNews.it, Weah first discussed what Milan means to him personally.

“Milan gave everything to my father… We have a great relationship with the city of Milan. Compared to my brother and sister, I was not yet born when dad played for Milan, but his Rossoneri history is incredible.

“His memories of Milan are fantastic, Milan are a great club, they’re the history of my family. I’m happy for what he’s done.”

He gave his thoughts on his father’s impressive time at the club.

“Milan are in my heart, the club have given everything to my father and my family. Then it’s normal to have a certain bond with the clubs where my father played.

“Watching the videos on Youtube, you realise the imprint he left on the history of football. And to this day he often talks about his former teammates and friends, all of this is etched in my mind. Dad was great in Milan.”

The 23-year-old American commented on if a move to Milan was on the cards.

“I don’t like to talk too much about the future also because right now I am focused on Lille. I just want to help the team and work hard, then we’ll see. Nobody knows what will happen in the future.

“Of course, I’d like to follow in my dad’s footsteps. It would be great to play for Milan. I’ll keep going on my way and then we’ll see.”

He was asked who his footballing idol is.

“Ronaldinho. Technically he was super, I loved watching him play. But I also liked Kaka and Alexandre Pato when he was young.”

Finally, Weah discussed his thoughts on the Champions League this season.

“I’m an avid Milanista, I hope they win the Champions League. Then I have many friends in the team and their success for me is like a diamond.”

The elder Weah spent five years of his career with Milan, from 1995 to 2000. During that time, he won the Ballon d’Or and scored 58 goals in 147 games for the club.
