Milan need a replacement for injured Riccardo Montolivo, with options including Milan Badelj, Leandro Paredes, Cesc Fabregas and Youri Tielemans.
Montolivo’s terrible luck with the Italy jersey continued when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Spain.
He will go under the knife today and is expected to be out of action for around six months.

Milan therefore require a replacement in the January transfer window and should have fresh funds from the Chinese takeover by then.
The usual candidates are suggested, namely Fiorentina’s Croatia international Badelj, Paredes of Roma and Chelsea benchwarmer Fabregas.
The Corriere dello Sport adds another intriguing name, that of 19-year-old Anderlecht talent Tielemans.
He has an eye for goal, scoring five and providing two assists in 13 competitive club games this season.
His price-tag is in the region of €15m and Tielemans had previously been linked to Inter thanks to their scouting chief Massimiliano Mirabelli.
This week, Milan’s new owners hired Mirabelli as their director of sport for when the takeover is completed in November.
