Roma director Tiago Pinto confirms the club is ‘ambitious’ in the Europa Conference League and they want to go all the way ahead of the Round of 16 with Vitesse.

The first leg kicks off in Arnhem at 17.45 GMT.

Lorenzo Pellegrini and Rick Karsdorp are not risked on a turf that Jose Mourinho has already criticised, but other than that it’s a full-strength XI this evening.

“Fortunately we don’t have any more injuries other than Leonardo Spinazzola, so it’s easier for the coach to rotate, he was able to choose the players most suited to this game,” Tiago Pinto told Sky Sport Italia.

“We said from the start that we feel ambitious about this competition and want to go all the way, we believe we can win it and every match must be treated like a final. I think the team selection tonight shows that ambition.

“Serie A is very competitive, so if a team wins or doesn’t win for two rounds, it makes a big difference in the race for a Champions League spot. We want to win as many games as we can to get closer to the top spots.

“We’ll see what happens, but the important thing is to take it one game at a time. We cannot spend every week judging whether we are close or far from the position we want.”

The director was asked specifically about the improvements from centre-back Marash Kumbulla this season.

“Kumbulla’s trajectory is down to Mourinho and the player himself. The coach had a challenge to develop Marash’s weaknesses, while the defender is very determined and a great professional who showed himself to be a splendid student.”

Sergio Oliviera makes his return after a muscular issue, but it remains to be seen if Roma will buy him outright from FC Porto in the summer.

“He had two very good games, then an injury, but this is an opportunity for him to show what he can do and we’ll see at the end of the season.”
