Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini is on an expiring contract but sporting director Tiago Pinto stressed the 25-year-old ‘wants to renew’ with the Giallorossi.

Coach Jose Mourinho encouraged Pellegrini to sign a new deal as soon as possible, as the midfielder has played an important part in a successful start to the season.

Tiago Pinto has reassured fans that the Italy international wants to pen a new deal at the Olimpico and doesn’t foresee any problems with the negotiations.

“Lorenzo Pellegrini wants to renew, and Roma want to renew, there will be no problems,” Tiago Pinto said at a press conference.

“My vision is not the Scudetto but working every day to reduce the distance between Roma and success. We talked about time, which is not an excuse not to win, we always want to win.”

Pellegrini, who has played 156 competitive games with Roma, has scored once and made one assist in the first two Serie A games this term. He was given the armband at La Lupa when Edin Dzeko was stripped of the captaincy under Paulo Fonseca last term.
