The director joined the Giallorossi on January 1 but tested positive for COVID-19 at the end of December, leading to a complicated beginning with La Lupa.
“The start was not easy due to the coronavirus problem,” he told Sport TV. “When I arrived, I was still infected.
“There were several problems when I arrived. Plus, there was an open market and for this season the adaptation was not easy.
“Anyway, I’m super excited and motivated, I have faith in the project and what the owners want to do with the club.
“I feel their confidence and I think Roma have incredible potential. It’s up to me to prove that I have the skills to carry out this project.
Fonseca returned to Sporting Braga in the Europa League this week and brought home a 2-0 win in the first leg of the competition, but Tiago Pinto stressed the Giallorossi can’t think too far ahead.
“We must have a competitive mentality and face each match as if it was a Final,” he said. “If we think about the Europa League Final or the end of the championship, things will happen in the meantime that we can’t comprehend.
“If we want to do something, we must advance against Braga first.”
The new sporting director praised the coach at the Olimpico.
“His support for me has been spectacular,” he said. “He’s a great coach, with a lot of experience.
“He’s an international class tactician.”
