“It will be a difficult game today against the reigning champions of Italy, but we are here with the ambition to get a result,” assured Tiago Pinto on DAZN.
The Giallorossi have been at the centre of transfer speculation in January, especially as Rick Karsdorp has been frozen out of the squad and is not even on the bench yet again.
“We are working with his entourage to find a solution that can make both parties happy.”
Meanwhile, Roma are eager not to lose Smalling on a free transfer, as his current contract is due to expire on June 30 and there are many reports he is courted by Inter for next season.
“Smalling starts today, you will see how important he is for this team. Both us and the player want to continue together.”
The 33-year-old English defender arrived initially on loan from Manchester United in the summer of 2019 and then made it permanent for a total cost of €18m.
