Former Parma and Juventus defender Lilian Thuram does not understand Milan fans jeering Gianluigi Donnarumma. ‘How can you forget so quickly?’

The shot-stopper refused to sign a new contract and was allowed to leave his boyhood club as a free agent, signing for Paris Saint-Germain.

The controversy over the boos and whistles during last night’s Nations League 2-1 defeat to Spain was that Donnarumma was representing Italy and not his club, yet Azzurri supporters still took the opportunity to insult one of their own.

“I don’t understand people, how can you forget so quickly?” Thuram told Tuttomercatoweb.

“Donnarumma did so well and played many years at Milan, it seems strange that people forget all of that straight away. Above all, he was playing for Italy at this time.”

Even if he had been representing PSG at San Siro, Thuram stands up for Donnarumma’s career path.

“This is a profession, you make choices. People think it is always the fault of a player when he moves, but that is not necessarily the case,” concluded Thuram.

  1. Maldini’s situation was galling and bizarre.. It was a tiny minority of Italian based idiots. Their sentiments were rejected by almost every other Milan fan out there, including most of the ultras.. a completely different situation.

This is a completely different case and a sentiment that is agreed upon by almost the entire Milan fanbase.. Donnarumma was a classless muppet who went chasing money and couldn’t even give the club a big money move as a parting gift to show his “love”. Besides the best way to show your love to something or someone is to stay with them. You don’t say you love your wife when you forced a divorce down her throat.. utter hypocrisy and idiocy to think he doesn’t sound stupid uttering such drivel.

He deserves every boo he gets. I hope he sits on the PSG bench for a year. A total ingrate.

Besides he did nothing compared to what Maldini did for Milan.. a ludicrous comparison.

  2. Its not that Gigio left Milan……. Its how he left Milan. Kissing the shirt time and time again in the final season but deep down he knew he wouldnt be staying.

We the Milanisti do not forget.

  3. @ Primadonnarumma I totally agree with you.. He was no body until Milan brought him to the team and his very first professional contract was a battle, Milan paid him alot at the same time paying his brother for being on the bench and yet he left for Free
That’s something that won’t be forgotten!

  4. Donnarumma is a traitor and ingrate
He deserves the worst treatment we are giving him
We brought him from nowhere and he became somebody but the only way he could say thanks to milan is by doing this?
    He’s not a milan fan
I have been a milan fan since 1982?
I spend my money, stayed with milan when it was dead yet I never moved to another club
My wife and kids went through the hard days with me for milan
My last baby was always sad whenever we lose yet we remained milan how much more who was making money in milan
    Let him go
    He’s a traitor and a betrayal

  5. Would I have personally booed him? No, however, I understand why Milanisti did and I don’t feel it is wrong. The dude put Milan through the ringer the past few years and then to just leave on a free is disrespectful, especially when he’s receiving similar figures to what he was already getting and just being mostly a bench warmer. The least he could’ve done was sign an extension with the understanding that he is to be sold, so then his move could have at least helped the club a bit. His disrespect is what got under people’s skin and I don’t blame them one bit for booing and jeering him. He has some growing up to do because his attitude fluctuates between being respectful and being a brat. If he can’t handle the jeering and still perform under it, then he needs to learn to compose himself better. I want him to do well wherever he goes, but I wouldn’t boo him. Not because I respect him, but because I don’t boo any of Gli Azzurri.

  6. I like Thuram a lot, as player and as a man but have to disagree with him here. I expected a better comment from him, perhaps one of gratitude to a club, especially during some really tough financial times. No word or comment on Mino Lilian, all good?

Well said ragazzi…not the fact that he did leave, but HOW he left. Imagine Paolo tried to talk to $$$ at/near the end of the season and he told Paolo “talk to Mino”. He’s a weak puppet-always has been. That’s the level of ingratitude and disrespect it descended too. Glad no bidding war ensued and they (him and his master Mino) were left with just 1 option, a single ONE. PSG. Not the 10/12m he was trying to wring out of Milan.

What’s so ironic is that we barely heard from $$$$$rumma during most of his last year or two, but now we’re hearing from him (referencing Milan) every other week.

Played 4 games out of 12 this season. Obviously he’s a long term purchase and has age on his side so will eventually be their #1 but I’m certainly enjoying the splinters on the bench.

    Siempre Milan you snake!!

  7. Nice one @Em Apache!! A few more years than me…like it. Top class support. Through the dark lean years we’re still here. Had our share of suffering. Rising from the ashes again.

    Forza Milan!

  8. Milan fans are hilarious…guys got maybe two decades tops to play football and earn money. Pay him what he is worth..if you can’t then shut up. He’s a top guy in the world and deserves to be paid as such. He’s supposed to stay for love? Come on? Who would do that? Totti is all that comes to mind. Ya’ll are sick and fickle people. If was a player who saw what yall are capable of I’d never go to Milan. Repeat the Maldini episode. Get a grip and grow up.

  9. Milan fans still act like they have a world class club…you have expensive tastes for the best goods but you have no money. Get over it.

  10. Donnarumma should remember what Milan did for him. There’s plenty of good keepers out there. Milan made this guys life. Sorry Thuram, great defender but no brains.

  11. They are ungrateful twits .. they act like bought a slave instead of a player. Especially after this team brought Italy the European championship trophy when no one expected they would after 60 year drought. No appreciation for the did for their country.

Football is a business, it’s a job. Players have maybe 10 years of a lucrative career and if he was happy he would stayed there.

Don’t know why they think he owns them, AC Milan didn’t have him around for charity . He left them in better position then when arrived in the champions league these for the first time in a decade.

  12. @Sammy you lost your credibility regarding football when you say “when arrived in the champions league these for the first time in a decade.” The last time Millan played in CL was the 2013/2014 season.
Don’t get Milanisti wrong, it is not about where he left them, it’s about what he left them with. He could’ve left Milan after sign an extension with a minimum buyout clause or left for free with no seducing act. Instead, he kissed the badge and dragged the contract extension with his agents demanding 20 Mil euros.
Love is a plus value for professional athletes, but respect is essentially expected value even from amateurs.

  13. Thuram left Juve when they go down to Serie B. Not exactly comparable here, but its not a surprise coming from him. As for Gigio, if he really wants to go that bad, at least try to go with some transfer fees for the club who benched Diego Lopez for a 16 year-old. He should look how Tonali and Calabria handles their contracts, true Milanisti.

  14. What can we expect from these types of fan? They also did the same thing to Maldini before his retirement

  15. Gigio owns you NOTHING. Get over it.

You didn’t make him, so stop with this talk. He was going to make it with whatever club he went to.

These are the same people who were on pins and needles during the Shoot Outs versus Spain and England.
