Newcastle United have been linked with several Serie A players in the January transfer window, but three of them have already rejected a move to St. James’ Park.

The Magpies have almost an unlimited transfer budget but are struggling to persuade big names to join the club.

Several Serie A players have been linked with a move to Newcastle in the January transfer window, from Stefan de Vrij to Marcelo Brozovic, from Andrea Belotti and Gleison Bremer to Robin Gosens and Duvan Zapata.

However, nobody has yet given the green light to move to St. James’ Park.

Football Italia takes a look at those who have already refused to join the club that has been acquired by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) for £305m.

Marcelo Brozovic

The Inter star sees his contract expire at the end of the season, but the Nerazzurri have reached an agreement to extend his stay at the club and an announcement is expected soon.

Brozovic will sign a €6.5m-a-year deal plus add-ons and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he has snubbed a higher offer from Newcastle.

The Magpies had reportedly put a new €8m-a-year deal on the table, but Brozovic informed the Premier League strugglers that he wants to ‘play at a high level.’

Aaron Ramsey

The Wales international is looking for an escape route from Juventus, where he has only played five games across all competitions this season.

The former Gunner sees his current deal expire in June 2023 and has reportedly rejected offers from Newcastle, Wolves and Burnley.

Ramsey is among Juventus’ highest earners in Turin with a €7m-a-year salary.

His agents get €2.8m-a-year from the Bianconeri. According to Calciomercato.com, Ramsey also snubbed Newcastle over fears they could be relegated this season.

Belotti snubs January move to Newcastle

Andrea Belotti

Last but not least, Torino captain Andrea Belotti is not convinced by the Magpies and is waiting for a call from a bigger club over the next few weeks.

The Italy international is eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement given that his current deal with the Granata runs out on June 30.

Belotti has been linked with a move to Milan and it is believed that he aims to stay in Serie A.

Newcastle are not giving up their chase for Serie A stars, but Torino have reportedly rejected a €30m bid for Bremer, while Atalanta are currently unwilling to sell Robin Gosens and Duvan Zapata but could change their mind if the Premier League strugglers raise their offer.

  1. also you would have to live in Newcastle – and that is a grim prospect. (but I suppose I would do it for 8M a year)

  2. Where are all those NUFC fans now? You know the ones calling Milan a tinpot club? Well come on!? Not so clever now are you when your club is getting slammed, eh?

  3. @RossoNero83 We will see who the tin pot club is over these next few years! The writing is on the wall
