Up to seven different teams can end the weekend at the top of the Serie A table, while Juventus, Inter, Milan, Atalanta and Bologna prepare for another round of exciting Champions League fixtures.

Here are three reasons to tune into Serie A this weekend.

Seven teams can take the lead in Serie A

Any one of seven teams are mathematically able to take the lead of the Serie A table by the end of the weekend. They include the current first-place holders Torino, as well as Napoli, Udinese, Juventus, Empoli, Inter and Milan.

The leaders could change by the end of Friday evening, in fact, as Milan will storm to the top of the table if they beat Lecce in San Siro, regardless of the scoreline.

As all of the teams mentioned above kick off at different times this weekend, the team at the top of the table could theoretically change up to six times before the weekend is complete.

Chaos settling down for Milan and Roma

After a hectic few weeks in both San Siro and the capital, things finally look to be settling down for both Milan and, partially, Roma.

The Rossoneri rose to a 2-1 victory over reigning champions and rivals Inter last weekend, a result which has helped keep coach Paulo Fonseca in his job. Milan had won just one of their first five competitive matches of the season, but looked a transformed side against the Nerazzurri and are now hoping to kick-start their season.

They could end up at the top of the table with a win on Friday night.

Roma also need to start picking up points after a rough start to the 2024-25 campaign, which led the departure of club legend Daniele De Rossi last week.

The Giallorossi have an opportunity to pick up three points at home to Venezia, which would bring them up to nine points from their first six league matches of the season. Juric’s side collected a 1-1 Europa League draw against Athletic Club last night.

Champions League preview

Five Serie A teams will also be in Champions League action in the days directly after this round of domestic fixtures. This will provide a bit of a preview ahead of another round of exciting European clashes.

Milan and Inter will be up on Tuesday against Bayer Leverkusen and Red Star Belgrade respectively, with Shakhtar Donetsk-Atalanta, Liverpool-Bologna and RB Leipzig-Juventus following on Wednesday.

Juventus were the only team to win during the first round of Champions League fixtures, but Milan were the only side to lose. All five sides will surely be hoping for a win in Serie A in order to give them a confidence boost heading into the midweek Champions League round.
