Empoli midfielder Riccardo Saponara has been handed a three-match ban for his outburst in defeat to Frosinone.

The Italy Under-21 international was shown a straight-red card for dissent in last night’s 2-0 loss, and had to be restrained by teammates after being dismissed.

The Lega Serie A has handed down a three-match ban, both for the “insulting remarks” and the “threatening attitude” which Saponara displayed toward the referee, Marco Guida.

His Coach Marco Giampaolo has also been given a one-match touchline ban after insulting the referee, his comments picked up by the fourth official. Giampaolo also criticised Guida after the final whistle.

Empoli sporting director, Marcello Carli, has also been banned from representing the club at FIGC events and performing duties for the Federation until October 20, after he came onto the pitch to confront the referee.

Lazio defender Mauricio, Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli, Miranda of Inter, and Torino pair Joel Obi and Cristian Molinaro have also been given a one-match ban for their red cards at the weekend.

Napoli have been fined €10,000 after fans aimed laser pens at Juventus players during their 2-1 win at San Paolo.
