Gianluigi Buffon has been handed a three-match ban for his conduct during and after Juventus’ Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid.
Buffon was sent off for excessive dissent towards Michael Oliver after he took issue with the referee’s decision to award Madrid a stoppage-time penalty, which ultimately knocked Juve out of the Champions League and sent Los Blancos into the semi-finals.

Buffon was sent off for excessive dissent towards Michael Oliver after he took issue with the referee’s decision to award Madrid a stoppage-time penalty, which ultimately knocked Juve out of the Champions League and sent Los Blancos into the semi-finals.
The goalkeeper then accused Oliver of acting like ‘an animal, with a bin for a heart’ in his post-match interview, for which he later apologised.
A UEFA statement read: “The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided to suspend the Juventus Football Club player Gianluigi Buffon for three (3) UEFA competition matches for which he would be otherwise eligible.”
That would prevent the 40-year-old from appearing in Paris Saint-Germain’s first three Champions League games next season if he joins the French giants.
