In today’s first training session with his assembled squad, the former Juventus boss indicated that he will be running with his preferred 3-5-2 shape, as he put the players through a tactical exercise at Coverciano.

The 45-year-old split the group into two line-ups in this same formation, with one of the selections using Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini as the defence, and Marco Verratti in front of them as regista.

Oriundi call-ups Eder and Franco Vazquez, as well as fellow newcomer Mirko Valdifiori, worked with and without the ball during the session, and early speculation is that at least one of the three will be in the starting line-up this weekend against Bulgaria.

Manolo Gabbiadini took part in regular work with his teammates, in spite of being under observation for a problematic groin injury.

Tomorrow the players face a double workout, with the morning session open to the Press.
