Inter have three players unlikely to make the cut for their opening match of the 2024-25 season, but new signing Mehdi Taremi is back in training and set to be involved with the matchday squad.

Inter will travel to Genoa for their first match of the new Serie A season on Saturday evening, kicking off at 17.30 BST.

Three Inter players doubtful ahead of Serie A opener

Simone Inzaghi will likely have to do without new signing Piotr Zielinski, though. The Poland international is closing in on a return to full fitness, but is still training individually according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

It is more likely that he will be spared at least until the second game of the season against Lecce in San Siro.

Stefan de Vrij is also expected to skip the trip to Genoa. The Nerazzurri otherwise have a relatively fit and available set of defenders, with Alessandro Bastoni and Francesco Acerbi ready to go, and Yann Aurel Bisseck claiming a starting role over Inter’s recent pre-season friendlies.

Inter will also have to decide if Kristjan Asllani is ready to be involved on Friday. If available, Inzaghi could utilise him from the bench as Hakan Calhanoglu may not be ready to last the full 90 just yet.

Elsewhere, Tajon Buchanan remains out long-term with a broken Tibia.

Mehdi Taremi is expected to be part of the squad, despite suffering a minor injury a fortnight ago. Marcus Thuram and captain Lautaro Martinez are ready and raring to go.
