Napoli reportedly face three obstacles to their desire to sign Javier Mascherano from Barcelona in January.

The Vesuviani have been increasingly linked with a pursuit for the Argentine, who can play in central midfield or as a centre-back, with Coach Rafa Benitez seen as pushing for a move this midseason.

Il Mattino report that Napoli have been in regular contact with the 29-year-old in the hope of persuading him and, whilst he has reportedly indicated a willingness to move and to even accept a pay-cut, the club apparently face three barriers.

It is seen that in particular, Barca Coach Tata Martino does not want to see the Catalans offload Mascherano, unless a replacement has already been secured, whilst Barca are also believed to value the former Liverpool man at €20m.

A final issue lies with the player, it is reported, with Mascherano keen to keep hold of his image rights, something that President Aurelio De Laurentiis has previously mused publicly that ‘no player’ he signs gets to keep.
