Inter President Erick Thohir reveals it’s ‘possible’ Ivan Perisic will arrive, and explains the sale of Mateo Kovacic and Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Nerazzurri have sold Kovacic to Real Madrid, but are reportedly seeking to reinvest the funds in new attacking options, with the Wolfsburg winger top of Coach Roberto Mancini's wishlist.

“I think in the last few transfer windows we’ve brought in a lot of players, who we’ve spent a lot of money on,” Thohir said in a Detiksport discussion forum in Jakarta.

“Of course, it shouldn’t be that way, because then things become unbalanced. We were forced by the Financial Fair Play rules to sell the talented Croatian [Kovacic], it was a very difficult decision for me.

“There’s the risk that he could shine elsewhere like [Andrea] Pirlo or [Philippe] Coutinho, but if we let players go and they turn out to be flops people don’t remember that, they only remember those who were successful.

“I think it also depends on the system each Coach uses, and the Italian League isn’t as tactically open as the Premier League or La Liga.

“It’s a situation we have to deal with, but the window is still open until August 31, so anything can happen.

“It’s possible that Ivan Perisic will come in, but everyone will be worthy of Inter, someone who can help the club, not a whim of mine.

“Shaqiri? He didn’t fit with Mancini and his system. His sale, like Kovacic’s was to balance the budget.”

Thohir then gave his verdict on the Beneamta’s signings so far, and reaffirmed his faith in Roberto Mancini.

“I’m optimistic that Roberto Mancini is the best choice for Inter, given his past success. Maybe people will talk about the negative results in pre-season, but what matters is the League.

“I’m optimistic, I’m a fan, and I think the players in the squad who are available to Mancini are very good.

“[Jeison] Murillo, Miranda, [Stevan] Jovetic and [Geoffrey] Kondogbia are all great players, and I hope the young players can make their contribution.”
