Erick Thohir says Inter support Roberto Mancini “in every way” and he’ll stay for at least next season.

The Nerazzurri are currently fifth in Serie A, five points away from the third and final Champions League spot, but the President assures the Coach’s job is safe.

“His contract lasts until 2017, I don’t think we’ll talk about it now,” Thohir told reporters at the Press conference to confirm the renewal of Pirelli’s sponsorship.

“Management supports him in every way, and the reason for getting him was to bring Inter into the Champions League – he and the players must prove they’re at that level.

“Will he stay? I think so, he has a contract.

“We have a five-year plan. We’re aiming for the Champions League, but if we don’t make it then we’ll concentrate on the Europa League.

“The numbers we’ve spent on the transfer market tell us we’re fine for the Europa League, while if we get to the Champions League there’s room for further additions.

“There’s a strategy, we’ve got so many new players and we’ve supported the project every step of the way.

“On the other hand, we need the results, and we want to achieve that with Mancini.

“Things change from weekend to weekend, we have a five-year plan and we have to get back to the Champions League where Inter should be.

“On January 6 we were in the lead, so we’d not only be in the top three, but possibly Scudetto winners. It’s very important to be aligned with our objectives, we’re aiming for the Champions League because it’s very important.

“We’ve had good results and we want to achieve our objectives, but it’s not the end of the world if we don’t succeed, because we’ll keep going until our goal is achieved.

“There are still nine games to go.”

The Beneamata have a demanding fanbase, will they be disappointed if Mancini’s side don’t come at least third?

“Inter fans are never satisfied, and that’s lucky for the club. As much as there’s despair in defeat, they’ll come back to see you when you reach your objectives.

“Every win we bring home allows us to get the fans behind us.”
