Inter President Erick Thohir says the Nerazzurri’s performance against Hapoel Be’er Sheva was ‘not up to the standard expected.’

Frank De Boer’s team opened their Europa League campaign with a hugely disappointing 2-0 loss against the Israeli champions on Thursday evening.

The result led to reports that the Dutchman’s tenure as Coach is already under threat but, in a message relaid to fans over Inter’s official website, the Indonesian businessman said the club must stand by the 49-year-old.

The result led to reports that the Dutchman’s tenure as Coach is already under threat but, in a message relaid to fans over Inter’s official website, the Indonesian businessman said the club must stand by the 49-year-old.

"Unfortunately the first match in the Europa League didn't go as we wanted,” Thohir stated.

“The players' performance wasn't up to the standards we expected and what we can do. We must remain focused in this moment and must absolutely stay close to Frank De Boer, who will find the way to make the group improve and fight for the positions that the club deserves.

“We need to keep our heads down and work hard."
