Thohir: ‘Inter expect top four’

Inter President Erick Thohir doesn’t see a repeat of Roberto Mancini’s second spell – “our goal is the Champions League”.

The Nerazzurri have won five of their first six games under Luciano Spalletti, but their performances have been unconvincing, leading to fears they could drop off much as Mancio’s side did in 2015-16.

“We were expecting these results, thanks to Spalletti’s leadership,” Thohir told Bola.liputan6.

“Now we’re in third place, our goal is the Champions League, always the Champions League, especially in a year where the top four all qualify.

“We have a lot of new players who were first brought by myself and by Suning. For example [Ivan] Perisic, [Mauro] Icardi, Miranda and [Danilo] D’Ambrosio.

“Then from Suning we’ve added Joao Mario, Dalbert and others. So we think the composition of the squad is ideal.

“Milan are different, since their new owners had to buy 11 new players. So you can’t compare our situations.”
