Former Inter president Erick Thohir was happy to see two Italian teams in the Champions League semi-finals and reflected on his time in charge of the club.

The Indonesian businessman owned the club for five years from 2013 to 2018, purchasing it from Massimo Moratti with the consortium International Sports Capital, before Zhang Jindong’s stepped in to take over, first investing in 2016 before completing a takeover two years later.

Thohir’s time in charge of Inter is not looked upon particularly fondly by the Nerazzurri faithful, with the team failing to win any honours during his time in charge.

Speaking to ldntimes.com, Thohir discussed the qualification of two Italian teams to the Champions League semi-finals and his time in charge of Inter.

“I am very happy for this goal achieved, in my five or six years at Inter I gave financial stability to the club. To have two semi-finalists in the Champions League is something extraordinary for Serie A, who have brought three teams in the top eight in Europe.

“Now there is the guarantee of having an Italian team that can challenge Manchester City or Real Madrid in the final.”

Inter will face inter-city rivals Milan in the Champions League semi-finals next month, setting up one of the most thrilling and important Derby della Madonnina clashes in recent memory.
